Graduating senior, Makayla Miano ’22 feels she is career ready after four busy years at UHart. She studied marketing at the Barney School of Business and was hired before graduation to work as a recruiter at Insight Global, a staffing company based out of Atlanta, GA. A combination of experiential learning, faculty support, and involvement on campus has prepared Miano to begin her career beyond UHart.

As required part of the Barney curriculum, students participate in an internship to gain experience outside the classroom. It is an opportunity to apply skills directly in the workforce. Miano says she “loves creating new ideas and working with others to achieve them.” She was able to do this through her role as an intern sales representative for NOCA Beverages.

Another contributor to Miano’s success was the hard work she exhibited in the classroom and the support she received from Barney’s faculty. “The professors are so helpful, and I love having small classes! The resume prep and mock interviews in Dr. Lofink’s class really helped me achieve my career goals. The interview and resume course helped tremendously as well as the emphasis on networking,” she says.

Miano was also involved in several organizations on campus, where she gained valuable skills that complimented the professional skills she was learning at Barney. She was the President of American Marketing Association and involved in the Greek system. She believes that involvement “helped me network with students and alumni and put me in contact with so many new opportunities!”

One of her favorite UHart memories is spring fling. She recalls, “It was my first-time spending time outside of class on campus and was a great example of what the UHart community is like.” Miano encourages new students to get involved. She says, “Get involved!!!! I met my best friends through joining clubs and organizations on campus. Joining things out of my comfort zone were hard at first, but I am so happy I did because I made the best friends and memories!”

As a result of her experiences and the support she received on campus, Miano believes she is ready for this new phase in her professional career.

My experience at UHart prepared me to become “career ready”. The interview and resume course helped tremendously as well as the emphasis on networking.
