Maris Campbell Johnson A ’87, ‘89, is a proud alumna of the University of Hartford. It is more than a title to her, it’s a reflection of a deep gratitude and a life bond with the university that helped shape her future. Today, she is paying it forward, ensuring that our future students have the same opportunities that she did. Her relationship with UHart is as strong today as it was when she attended as a student. “I feel very connected to the university, and I have deep, lifelong friendships from my time here.” Maris shares. As a member of the Alumni Advisory Council and chair of the Governance Committee, she continues to stay actively involved, demonstrating her commitment to its students and the university’s success.

She knows firsthand that scholarships can be the difference between a student continuing their education or having to put it on hold. “It’s vital to a student’s success at UHart,” she says, reflecting on how such support can sustain a student’s dream of earning a degree. Maris’s generosity stems from a genuine desire to help others succeed. “I am encouraged knowing my contributions allow students to continue their education.” She explains. “Being able to finish their degree is so important to their future success, and I am honored to play a role in that.” For Maris, it is an investment in our community and in the next generation of leaders.
Maris is also a proud member of the Rosen Society, an organization of alumni, parents, and friends of the University—people who love UHart and want the best education and experience for each new generation of students. Their loyal support is fueling innovation, shaping the University's future, and elevating the UHart experience for our students. Maris shared; “It’s nice to be a part of the Rosen Society, knowing that I am helping a student and making a difference.” While recognition isn’t her motivation, being a part of the Rosen Society is a rewarding feeling knowing that students are counting on us, and we are actively changing their lives.
Her message is simple yet powerful: “Give what you can.” Whether through financial contributions, mentoring, or volunteering, Maris believes everyone can help make a difference. “By contributing, you are creating opportunities and investing in our future.
