Katy Henchy ‘18, M’20
Katy Henchy ‘18, M’20 has a meaningful and memorable relationship with the University of Hartford which can be defined by her passion, commitment, and generosity. As a student, Henchy learned the importance of giving back during the university’s Day of Giving, formerly known as Founders’ Day, which sparked her philanthropic journey. “It wasn’t about the amount of money you gave,” she recalled, “it was about participating and being part of something bigger.”
As an alumna, Henchy continues to embody the spirit of giving. Her gifts, particularly to the Impact Fund, are driven by her desire to help all students experience college life without constant worries about finances. “I give because I want students to have the same opportunities I had,” she shared. “The Impact Fund helps relieve some of their pressures so students can focus on their education.”
Henchy has a very simple philanthropic philosophy: pay it forward. She understands that even small acts of generosity can have a large impact. “Every dollar counts,” she emphasizes. “Even if you can only give a little, it adds up when we all come together.” Her advice? Give what you can, and if monetary donations are not feasible for you right now, volunteer your time. It truly makes all the difference.
Henchy can regularly be found back on campus; volunteering for career and professional development programs, attending events, or cheering on the Volleyball Team.
“UHart gave me so much, and as I advance my career, I plan to increase my support,” she says. She believes her contributions will have a long-term impact on students and programs that she cares deeply about, ensuring future generations will benefit just as she did.
Henchy’s infectious positivity exemplifies the spirit of UHart. Her personal journey of giving back in more ways than one serves as a reminder that each one of us can make a difference.
