All equipment listed below is available for checkout by University of Hartford students, faculty, and staff. Library staff can provide basic assistance with the use of this equipment. If you need equipment longer than the standard loan period, please contact us in advance to set up a reservation for more time.
Audio Recorders
Standalone recording devices can record audio either onto an SD card or directly onto a computer.
Tascam DR-40
Includes adjustable mics from XY to AB position. Records to BWF-compliant WAV or MP3 formats. Handles up to 125 dB.

Video Camcorders
HD camcorders can record audio and video onto an SD card or directly onto a computer. Some may also be used for livestreaming.

Records high-quality video (up to 1080p at 60fps) and medium-quality audio (up to 48.0 kHz sampling rate) in AVCHD and MP4 formats.

Panasonic HC-X920M and HC-V750
Records high-quality video (up to 1080p at 60fps) and medium-quality audio (up to 48.0 kHz sampling rate) in AVCHD and MP4 formats. Can also take still photos in JPEG or MPO formats.

Zoom Q4
Records high-quality video (up to 1080p at 30fps or 720p at 60fps) and high-quality audio (up to 96kHz sampling rate) in MOV format. Can also record audio only in WAV or AAC formats.

USB Microphones
These microphones can be connected to a computer or other equipment via USB-A input, for recording purposes. (They are not for amplifying live sound.) We also have USB-A to USB-C adapters if needed to connect to your device.
Yeti
Records very high-quality audio at 48kHz sampling rate with frequency response of 20Hz – 20kHz.

Records high-quality audio at 48kHz sampling rate with frequency response of 30Hz – 15kHz.

Other Microphones
Other USB microphones are available at the Allen Library, also for one-day loans. They include tabletop microphones for recording or teleconferencing, plus clip-on lavalier microphones. These are slightly lower quality than the professional Yeti and Audio-Technica microphones, but are suitable for amateur projects.
Equipment Accessories
A variety of accessories are available for each type of equipment: SD cards, tripods, windscreens, lights, green screens, etc. For more information, see our Accessories page or inquire at the Mortensen or Allen circulation desk.
Post-Recording Processing Software
Some library desktop computers include Adobe Creative Cloud software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, InDesign, XD, and more. These computers are located on the upper level of Mortensen Library, surrounding the atrium. Ask at the circulation desk if you're not sure which computer to use.
Some MacBook Pro laptops at the Allen Library include the ProApps bundle, with Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, and MainStage. Please contact Mike Anderson to set up a reservation for one of these laptops.
