Are you looking for something to do over summer break? We offer study abroad programs in many different countries through our close partnerships. For these short-term programs, you will apply directly through the program provider, and work with Transfer Admissions to bring your credits back to UHart. Note that these credits will appear on your transcript as transfer credits (which is different semester or University of Hartford faculty-led programs abroad).
Summer programs can be as short as three weeks or up to twelve. The longer you are abroad, the more credits you’ll receive; for example, a three-week program would usually be three credits whereas you could earn 12 credits on a three-month program. Most of the program options will be for general studies, however some will have specific focuses. Below is a list of the countries available for each program provider.

Build your resume abroad! The best thing about going through a provider is they will find the internship for you, and in most cases, housing is included in your program. The main thing to keep in mind is your experience level and where you want to go! Under each provider, you’ll see a list of countries where they currently offer internships; check out their websites to see more about the individual program deadlines – keep in mind there is no set list of internship positions; they will work with you to determine what you want in your internship, and then find a position just for you.

Give back to the community while attending your study abroad program. Some of our providers offers structured service-learning or community service as part of their programs, while others have informal volunteering opportunities where interested students would need to reach out to their onsite staff once they’ve arrived.
- All of IPSL’s study abroad programs include a service-learning component, so if that’s something you are sure you want to do while abroad, they would be the best provider to work with.
- AIFS Study Abroad offers specific community service programs in France, India, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, and South Africa.
- CIS Abroad also offers service-learning programs in Argentina, Ecuador, and South Africa
If you are looking for something more informal, almost all of the programs available will offer some sort of volunteer opportunity for you.
Previous UHart students have worked with AIDS awareness groups in Thailand, volunteered with the EMT service in Italy, and have taught English around the world.
If you're interested in doing research abroad, there are less of these opportunities compared to traditional study abroad and internship experiences, however there are still some research options out there. SIT Study Abroad has a research component on all of their study abroad programs, so that is the best place to start if you want to do research. Previous UHart students have conducted research in India and Nepal. If you are looking at non-SIT programs, please contact your program providers to see what research options are available on your program.
Grace Fields, Ballet Pedagogy, Global Hawks 2023Overall, I absolutely had the time of my life on this trip, even if it was very short. Many of the things that we saw such as the Colosseum, or the Roman forum, or just taking art trips around the city were things that I feel I would not have gone to experience if I didn't take this trip. I had such an amazing time learning and meeting new friends since I didn't know anyone that was going on the trip before we left. I'm definitely going to remember this trip for a long time.
