Joshua Marcial was hired before graduation as the branch marketing creative manager for Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp in Auburn, Massachusetts, overseeing the creation of the company’s promotional videos, social media, marketing pieces, events, and advertising strategy.
He says he learned about the position from a UHart alumna who served as a teaching assistant in one of his communication classes who knew his skillset and the quality of his work. Joshua emailed her his resume, cover letter, and work samples from internships he’s held both on and off campus. “By supplying that content, it really separated me from the competition.”
Joshua most recently completed an internship creating digital content for MBM Design, a full-service interior design company in Wethersfield, Connecticut. “One of the videos I created was published in Authority magazine spotlighting my boss,” he says. “I developed all marketing content from testimonials to “Design Tip Thursday” videos and even wrote articles about the current interns and why we (as a whole) meant so much to the company.”
Joshua says his favorite thing about UHART is, hands down, the courses, especially in the School of Communication.“I want to give my ultimate thanks and gratitude to Dr. Susan Cardillo. I have had a class with her every semester up until my senior year, and every year I learned something new. She gave me countless opportunities.”
When asked what advice he’d give to incoming students, Joshua says, “There will be good times, as well as bad. Take every day by being one percent better than the previous day. Focus on what is necessary, then what is possible, then suddenly, you are doing the impossible. Connect with students, and do not be afraid to be yourself.”
