CETA graduate recently promoted to Director of Transportation for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
The College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) would like to recognize Jason Santos ’05, BSCE, who was recently promoted to Director of Transportation for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). In this role, Santos oversees the organization’s parkways engineering section, structural engineering section and traffic engineering section. Jason was also elected and now serves on his town’s planning board in Holliston, Massachusetts.
Since graduating from the University of Hartford, Santos earned his MSCE with an environmental concentration from WPI and a master’s degree in Public Policy from UMass Dartmouth as a part-time student. Santos says aside from the early math and science lessons he received from his father, who was also an engineer, the University of Hartford provided the most significant advancement in his technical understanding as a young adult.
Jason Santos ’05, BSCEThe small class sizes allowed the professors to get to know and observe the students on such a close academic level that they had the ability to recognize when a class lesson was well received or not. Engineering principles especially as you move further into advanced courses are not always intuitive. Due to the smaller class sizes, the UHart engineering professors took the opportunity to get to know each student academically and fostered a special relationship that enabled classes rich in dialogue, collaboration and ultimately a great deal of learning. Many schools offer engineering students advanced science, math and engineering curriculum, very few however do so in such a way that provides for a comfortable group setting enabling a very productive learning environment. An environment that ultimately lead to a successful engineering career full of great personal relationships and professional achievements.
