When Jillian Bradley ’25, a student in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA), attended a career fair on campus, she was offered an internship with the Gilbane Building Company. But the news got even better after that: the company subsequently offered her a full-time position after graduation.

Jillian’s passion is developing fresh ideas about buildings and then bringing those ideas to life. “As I progressed through my coursework, I became increasingly fascinated by the coordination, problem-solving, and strategic planning required to successfully execute an architectural project,” she says. That’s what led her to also pursue a minor in project management from the Barney School of Business. Over the course of her studies, Jillian has gained insights into the collaboration between architects, engineers, and contractors, and has come to appreciate the transition from blueprints to physical structures and to understand the impact they have on communities. All of that is what shaped her long-term career goals.

She points to the opportunities for growth, career connections, and atmosphere of achievement as decisive reasons behind her deep appreciation for the University—along with its welcoming environment and true sense of community. “The friendships I have built—especially with peers in my major—have been invaluable.”

CETA’s emphasis on career development has opened many doors for me, from networking events and career fairs to connections with industry professionals. The collaborative environment allowed me to build lasting relationships with peers who share my passion for the field.

There are several members of the campus community whom Jillian credits with helping her have such a productive and enjoyable student tenure at UHart. She considers Professor James Fuller, chair of the architecture department and her academic advisor, to be one of the most important. “He provided invaluable support,” she says, “including guidance and mentorship. His expertise and willingness to assist with both academic and professional matters played a significant role in my student success.”

Jillian also credits her sorority, Sigma Delta Tau, with adding significantly to a rewarding college experience. She explains that she gained invaluable leadership skills, strengthened her ability to make ethical decisions, and learned the importance of accountability. “Joining Sigma Delta Tau was one of the best decisions I ever made,” she adds proudly.

Another important part of Jillian’s life is her deep commitment to giving back to the community. She has spent the past four years in her sorority contributing to and overseeing community service initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; and has organized events raising money for philanthropic causes such as Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA) and Jewish Women International (JWI), and other community service events such as Blankets for Babies.

As an intern, Jillian worked on two major projects last summer, a one-floor renovation of a Mt. Sinai Health Facility hospital in New York City and a science research lab for New York University. Her favorite part was the opportunity to be hands-on in the construction process and witness the projects coming to life. The mentorship she received—from managers, team members, peers, and the company’s own mentor program—was incredibly inspiring and instrumental. Both of the projects on which Jillian worked deepened her passion for construction management and gave her invaluable hands-on experience in project coordination, problem-solving, and teamwork. It was her dedication and enthusiasm that led to the job offer as a field engineer.

Another thing Jillian loved about the experience was spending time in New York City. “It was so fulfilling to spend my summer there networking in so many ways with hundreds of people, including Gilbane employees, architects, engineers, tradespeople and many others,” she recalls.

Beyond campus, what Jillian enjoys most is spending time with friends and family. “My support system means the world to me,” she emphasizes. “Quality time with my loved ones is something I cherish deeply.” And if she’s not with loved ones, she’s probably reading. In her words, reading allows her to unwind and explore new perspectives. In short, Jillan loves to keep busy, whether privately or with a group. That’s the way it was during college, and that’s the way it will likely be as a professional.
