Health Insurance
In previous years, the University has required all students to obtain and provide proof of health insurance before the beginning of each school year. For the 2024–2025 academic year, the University of Hartford does not require health insurance as a condition of attendance. Students are not charged for a University-sponsored insurance plan nor is there an online waiver to complete.
Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services are available to all registered University students, regardless of insurance status. While most of medical services are free of charge prescriptions, laboratory tests, and diagnostic testing may have associated fees are billed to a student’s bursar account.
Student Health Services strongly encourages all students to keep a health insurance in the event of a serious illness, injury, or unanticipated surgery. Without adequate health insurance you could potentially be left with a significant medical bill or be unable to receive the care or medicine you need.
Accident Insurance
As part of your enrollment at the University, all full-time undergraduate students for the current term are covered under the University Accident Policy provided by Gallagher Koster. This policy is in place, regardless of what health insurance you have, to protect students and provide excess coverage in the event of an accident. The cost of this accident policy, which covers accidents both on and off campus, is included in the student support services fee each full and part time undergraduate student pays. This accident policy is a secondary policy meaning the insurance plan will pay only accident-related costs that are not covered by a student's other (primary) health insurance policy. The coverage period is August 1st through December 31st for the Fall term and January 1st through July 31st for the Spring term.
