Bob Kaufman (C Ward), founder of Bob’s Discount Furniture, appears in a new national ad campaign called, “Assemble the Bobs.” The ad features Kaufman, Bob’s iconic Little Bob and Puppet Bob, as well as celebrities including Rob Schneider, Rob Van Winkle (“Vanilla Ice”), WWE Superstar Bobby Lashley, a likeness of artist Bob Ross, and Roberto Hernandez.

Marion McPartland (A&S) joined Rainforest Trust in January 2022 as digital writer/editor. She has dedicated her career to the environment, arts, and culture at organizations like The Maritime Aquarium, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and Princeton HealthCare System Foundation. Randall Gordon (Hartt) recently published a piece called, “Through the Looking Glass: The Context of Out-of-Tune Data” in The Data Administration Newsletter. Patrick Malakian (Barney), pictured, directed and released his feature film, Why Is Mum in My Bed? in 1994, and has been a director, producer, writer, and actor for several television series since then. The French-Armenian was recently interviewed about his body of work, as well as his legacy as the son of renowned French filmmaker Henri Verneuil.

Edward Fast (Hartt, M’93 Hartt), pictured, is bandleader of Conga Bop, a Latin jazz ensemble that recently opened the Palace Theater Poli Club’s Winter Jazz series in Waterbury, Conn. Rachel Sokolow (Hartt) and her partner Carol Ann Cheung have launched a career advice column for professional musicians called, “Asking For a Friend.” Sokolow is an artist manager at MKI Artists and previously served as promotion director at G. 1999 | William Rood Jr.
William “Bill” Rood Jr. (Hartt), his wife Melissa Rood, and their 22-year-old son, Will Rood, make up the Connecticut-based, indie-pop trio November Sound. Composer and violinist Lauren Bernofsky (Hartt) is hard at work composing the storyline, music and libretto for her upcoming opera about WWII hero Anton Schmid. Trisha Farmer (ENHP) MSN, RN, CNS recently joined Hackensack Meridian Children’s Health in Hackensack, NJ as vice president of Children’s Care Transformation Services. After earning her bachelors in nursing at UHart, Farmer earned a masters in nursing and pediatric clinical nurse specialist certification at Yale. She is currently pursuing an Executive MBA in healthcare at Yale, which she expects to complete in May 2023.

This cause is dear to Todd, because his grandmother, Anne, passed away several years ago from Hodgkin’s disease—a form of leukemia. Georgia-based trombonist James Dubberly III (M Hartt) and the Grammy-winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra recently played Georgia State University’s Rialto Center for the Arts. Scott Lamlein (Hartt) has begun an adjunct faculty position at Hartt, teaching a beginner’s course on the pipe organ to undergrad and grad pianists, and giving them tools to enter the church workforce. He has been director of music and organist at West Hartford’s St. John’s Episcopal Church since 2014.

Penn’lope Davis (M Barney) is the new associate vice president for human resources at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. Prior to this she served as chief human resources officer for the Department of Social Services for the State of Connecticut and also as an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut.
2008 | Paul Rudoi
Paul Rudoi (Hartt) created a concert-length work titled Our Transcendental Passion which chronicles the rise, fall, and legacy of the Transcendental movement in 19th-century America. Rudoi structured the work like a traditional passion, with choruses, arias, and instrumental only movements, but also “chorales” which are reimagined versions of Sacred Harp tunes. The work had a very successful premiere on April 2 and 3 with The Boston Cecilia, a community chorus over 140 years old, alongside renowned soloists Dana Whiteside, Carley DeFranco, Sophie Michaux, and Daniel Esteban Lugo. The piece was deemed “a new American classic” by The Boston Musical Intelligencer. Learn more about the piece.

Marc Meyers (A&S) was recently appointed as city manager for the City of Bath, Maine. Meyers has worked for the City in various capacities since 2012, including assistant city manager and director of community development. He also serves as the president of Midcoast Council of Governments.

Orin Wolf (Hartt) is president of NETworks Presentation, a full-service theater production company and Broadway tour producer. Wolf’s production company recently brought the Broadway classic Hairspray to life at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre after a Covid-related hiatus.

Kyle Wrentz (Hartt) and Healy Sammis launched Break a Leg Theater Works in Plymouth, Mass in 2015. Since then, nearly 400 children have taken part in their musical theater workshops for teens and younger children, as well as one-day master classes taught by New York and Boston professionals.

Matthew Cronin (HAS) is owner of the Salem-based North Shore Glass Studio which is experiencing a huge surge of interest in its classes thanks to the Netflix hot glass competition show, Blown Away. Julia Anna Mattingly graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2014, receiving a DNP with a population-focused infection prevention focus. She is currently an assistant professor of nursing at one of the regional campuses for Indiana University. Mattingly recently published an article in contemporary nursing on promoting cultural safety in nursing education through a service learning experience at an American Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Chaz Davis (A&S) won the para-athlete visually impaired division (T11/T12) for the second time at the Boston Marathon. Davis finished the race in 2:45:45.

Mohammed Almutairi (M ENHP) recently defended his dissertation entitled "Depression, Social Relationships, and Glycemic Control Among Older Adults with Diabetes" from Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Mo. He passed with distinction and will be awarded the PhD in May 2022.

Rachel Cisto (A&S) was recently promoted to customer service supervisor for Unifi Aviation at Jackson Hole Airport in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She joins a team of six other station leaders working to provide an exceptional experience to Delta passengers flying into or out of Jackson Hole.

Patrick Regan (HAS), pictured, is the illustrator behind the artwork found on the eclectic microbrews of Tox Brewing in New London, Conn. Regan runs Faire Harbour Art, where he does commission work, and also does design work for DJ Frank Lo’s The Famous New London clothing collaborative.

Cellist Cara Cheung (Hartt) was recently named the new executive coordinator for the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra. Cheung will continue to perform as a member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. She also teaches music at the Community School in Centerbook, Conn. Jimmy Slayton (Barney) has signed on as goalkeeper for the Hartford Athletic soccer team’s 2022 season, pending league and federation approval. While playing for the Hartford Hawks, Slayton made 74 starts, tallied 293 saves, and recorded a program record 21 career shutouts.

2020 | Jenica Heintzelman
Jenica E. Heintzelman (M HAS) has exhibited her photography at C/O Berlin and BFOTO Festival in Spain and was named by the British Journal of Photography among the “2021 Ones to Watch: Community.” Her book, Down a Stream, explores themes of vulnerability, trauma, and the notion of healing and was shortlisted for the Fiebre Dummy Award, SELF PUBLISH RIGA 2021, and the ICP/GOST First Book Award. Brian Lutz (M HAS), pictured, is an award-winning artist who is known for drawing cultural icons both living and dead in his distinctive illustrative style. Lutz recently joined the UHart faculty as an adjunct professor teaching editorial illustration. His other clients include the Los Angeles Times, Texas Monthly, New York Magazine/Vulture, UConn Magazine, and Upper Deck.

Tenor Rongjun Li (M Hartt) recently performed the role of Dr. Blind in the Connecticut Lyric Opera’s production of Die Fleidermaus. Li was First Tenor in the Opera’s production of La liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola d'Alcina and an ensemble member in the opera's production of Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème last summer.
