Do you have news to share?

Maybe you recently got married or had a baby, celebrated a promotion or professional milestone, or had a gathering with some UHart friends. Whatever your news may be, share your UHart pride with your fellow alumni by submitting a class note or tagging us on social media. Select news and posts may be published in a future issue of H magazine. Notes are posted on a quarterly basis in March, June, September, and December and are archived after two years.

1971 | Arthur Warren IV

arthur-warren-iv.jpgArthur Warren IV (Barney) and his wife, Judith, retired from their practice of law after 41 years of client service in 13 states. Their two children were recently married in L'Escala, Spain and Naples, Florida.

They are actively involved in representing progressive social and economic issues in the Naples retirement community and in the Yarmouth, Massachusetts, summer community on Cape Cod.

1976 | Scott John Kalicki


Scott Kalicki (Barney, M'77 Barney) was named interim CEO for the Gateway Campus of Connecticut State Community College. Additionally, Scott is a volunteer rickshaw pilot for UR Community Cares, Cycling Without Age.

1975 | Diane Rechel

dianne-rechel.jpgDianne Rechel (Hartt) recently published her first book of home selling advice! She has been involved in representing buyers and seller for more than 20 years. She also continues to be a performing musician—both as pianist and organist.

1982 | Amy Calder

amy-calder.jpgAmy Calder (A&S) published a book titled Comfort is an Old Barn: Stories from the Heart of Maine.

 

 

 

 

 

1984 | Marilyn Baumgartner Barnes


Marilyn (Baumgartner) Barnes (Hartt), the 2019 New Mexico Music Educator of the Year, has opened a semi-professional musical theater company with her husband, Cris. It is called Tri-M (Millennial Music Makers) Productions and they are presenting three productions a year. They hire 20- to 40-year-old creatives to fill a gap in Santa Fe with opportunities for young professionals and to bring musicals to the area. As of October, they are on their ninth production, with such notables as Cabaret, Spring Awakening, and Kinky Boots

1985 | Keith Walsh

keith-walsh.jpgKeith Walsh (HAS) recently had work included in Angela Davis: Seize the Time at the Oakland Museum of California; and a solo show of drawings at RDFA in Los Angeles. Walsh also curated Sociality, a group exhibition at LA Tate Gallery in Los Angeles that included Michele Jaquis '97 (HAS).

1985 | Alejandro Tkaczevski


Alejandro Tkaczevski (Hartt) has been living in New Hampshire since 2018, teaching piano, giving lessons, and composing music in the woods. Tkaczevski married Victoria Gobetz '85 (Hartt) in 2017 and has sons living and working in both China and Japan.

1990 | David Sitver

David Sitver (Barney) was promoted to SVP, Enterprise Data Operations at Cedar Gate Technologies, a value-based health-care technology company headquartered in Greenwich, Conn.

1992 | Anthony Fireman

anthony-fireman.jpgAnthony Fireman (A Hillyer) started a small business called Your Next Phrase. Its specialty is coaching and/or writing to help individuals and businesses reach their goals when they have to write to do so.

Examples include business plans, grants, and résumés.

Currently, Fireman is a freelance writer with 12 years of experience.

2005 | Kathryn Kirkpatrick


Kathryn Kirkpatrick (ENHP) and Jon Vail were married on May 21, 2023.

2006 | Julia Mattingly


Julia Mattingly (M ENHP) was appointed dean of Indiana University Southeast School of Nursing on September 1, 2023.

2010 | Robert Nanna & Allegra Villers

robert-nanna.jpgRobert Nanna (Hartt) and Allegra Villers (A&S) were married on July 27, 2023, at St. Clements Castle in Connecticut. The newlyweds dated in college, got back together in 2018, moved in together during the pandemic in 2020, and are now married!

2011 | Bryan Cassidy


Bryan Cassidy (M Barney) has been honored as a top-performing C-suite level executive by the Hartford Business Journal. Cassidy is the senior vice president and chief information officer of Torrington Savings Bank. Read more about Cassidy.

2014 | Mary Matthews

mary-matthews.jpgMary Matthews (D Hartt) has released her second flute method book titled Into the Beyond. Co-authored by flutist-composer Nicole Chamberlain, the book is the second volume in their Beatboxing & Beyond Series. The method book is for flutists looking to level-up their extended techniques by alternating between techniques and layering techniques such as beatboxing, jet whistles, singing and playing, multi-phonics, among many others.

Matthews is assistant professor of flute at Florida State University's College of Music.

2015 | Mike Casey

mike-casey.jpgMike Casey (Hartt) made his scoring debut composing music for the Netflix TV show Spy Ops.

 

 

 

 

 

2016 | Yvette Cole


Yvette Cole (M ENHP), a certified kindergarten teacher in Stamford, Conn., recently wrote a children's book about Harriet Tubman called Harriet's Dinner Party. Cole is a major advocate for implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion into today's daily curriculums and was inspired to write this book when she struggled to find a book to read to her class that was based on Black history—but still fun and engaging for younger audiences.
