In a lengthy front-page story today, the Hartford Courant’s Dom Amore took the pulse of student-athletes and coaches about the University’s transition to NCAA Division III and the growth of UHart’s athletic programs.
The article also featured interviews with President Lawrence P. Ward and Director of Athletics and Recreation Alicia Queally. They highlighted UHart’s more than 420 student-athletes and nearly 20 sports, with tennis and field hockey slated to begin in the fall.
“We need to keep raising the bar,” Queally told the Courant. “I tell the coaches and the student-athletes, ‘we can beat anybody.’ We had over 40 of our student-athletes who had 4.0 this past semester. We raised the academic standard last semester, why were we at 3.3, why not 3.4? We want to win in the classroom, in the community.”
