Release of Updated Employment Manual

Employment Manual Release
January 2025

The Office of Human Resources Development (HRD) is pleased to announce that the Employment Manual has been updated and continues to provide faculty and staff with a comprehensive overview of policies, procedures, practices, regulations, and benefits related to employment at the University of Hartford. Employees should access and review the manual on a regular basis.

The manual has recently been fully assessed by HRD and the legal team, resulting in minor changes that improve the readability of the document. Additionally, there were several significant revisions that include the following:

  • Welcome Letter from President Lawrence P. Ward
  • Replacing, throughout the manual, his/her with his/her/their for inclusive excellence
  • Clarified sections that would defer to the Faculty Policy Manual or Adjunct Contract for faculty
  • Chapter 3.08—revisions to old language under the USERRA policy
  • Chapter 5.04—rewritten to comply with CT Sick Leave Law. Changes do not impact full-time staff; however the law expands personal time to part-time staff, temporary and student staff, as well as all faculty, expands reasons for sick leave, and prohibits employers from asking for physician notes for absences under CT Sick Leave.
  • Chapter 5.08—restructured to include CT FMLA and CT Paid Leave
  • Chapter 5.09—added Pregnancy Leave and Family Violence Leave
  • Chapter 5.14ؙ—updated to reflect the increase in benefits to $7,500/$15,000, which was effective April 1, 2024
  • Chapter 6.02—added Political Activities section (15)
  • Renumbered Chapter 7.02 to 8.01 and Chapter 8.01 to 8.02—Children on Campus

The full manual can be accessed through your personal Employee Self Service Portal (ESS). Please follow these steps:

  1. Access your Self-Service Center
  2. Choose the Employee Tab
  3. Choose the Employee Manual

HRD will continue to ensure that the most current edition of the Employment Manual is available on ESS.
