Congratulations to Professor Bryan Sinche, chair of the department of English and modern languages! His new book, Published by the Author: Self-Publication in Nineteenth-Century African American Literature (University of North Carolina Press, 2024), has been named a finalist for the 2025 Association for the Study of African American Life and History Book Prize. The ASALH, started in 1915 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, was the founder of Black History Month. The award recognizes the best new book in African American history and culture.
The winner will be announced on Feb. 11, as part of the 2025 ASALH Black History Month Festival.
