Nominations for the 2025 MLK Beloved Community Awards

The Office of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Observance Planning Committee are seeking nominations for the “2025 MLK Beloved Community Awards.” Through these awards, we seek to recognize and celebrate one student, alum, faculty, and staff member whose actions exemplify and honor the spirit of Dr. King’s Beloved Community. One recipient from each of the aforementioned categories will be selected.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. popularized the notion of the “Beloved Community.” King envisioning a society based on justice, equal opportunity, and love of one’s fellow human beings. Through his writings and his speeches, he challenged all of us to find the courage to create positive change in a troubled world. He taught us the importance of listening to and learning from others. He shared his dream, offering a glimpse of what was possible. He inspired generations to chart a course of action, to have real impact.

With Dr. King’s vision in mind, we are seeking nominations from the campus community who meet the criteria below:

  • Work hard to improve, and exemplify the principles of diversity and, equity to advance a culture of inclusion and belonging
  • Make or made a positive difference in the lives of others
  • Pay forward their work in various ways that support the many cultures at UHart
  • Commitment to research and/or activities that engage and challenge racism and expand diversity, equity, and inclusion at UHart
  • Organized, conducted, and/or supported programs, events, and activities that promote an understanding of different cultures

Click here to submit your nomination by Dec. 2. Award winners will be announced in UNotes sometime later in December and honored at the Annual MLK Observance program on Feb. 5, 2025.
