On Friday, Nov. 1, a group of 57 Barney first-year students and 13 Barney Leadership Council (BLC) members held a “JA in a Day” event at the University of Hartford Magnet School. The JA in a Day Program is designed to increase awareness of entrepreneurship and financial literacy of K-12 grade students.
Half of BAR 110 first-year students in the Barney School of Business taught each grade a progressive curriculum setting the foundations of basic business and economics. Most BLC members had participated before, many more than once, so their support was to help the freshmen with engaging the elementary school students and presenting materials. Overall, it was a great success, and the experience was beneficial not only to the students, but also freshmen volunteers.
The other half of BAR 110 students will deliver the same program on November 15 at the Annie Fisher School. Both events are a required component of BAR 110 and fulfill our mission to positively impact our community/society.
