Student Move-In

Student move-in is taking place as scheduled Monday and Tuesday. However, please note that students and families who experience travel delays or have concerns following Sunday's snow may arrive outside of their scheduled time slot at any time between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday or Tuesday. Students who need to arrive outside of these hours of 8:30 to 5 during these two days may contact the Office of Residential Life at reslife@hartford.edu.

Los Ritmos de Latinoamerica with Saxophonist Javier Andrés Ocampo

Travel through Latin American rhythms and celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with guest artist, Javier Andrés Ocampo. He will perform a saxophone recital filled with a variety of Latinoamerican musical styles on Friday, Oct. 18, at 5 p.m., in Berkman Recital Hall in the Fuller Music Center. Additionally, he will teach a masterclass open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 5:15 p.m., in Berkman Recital Hall. 

Since his debut as a soloist with the Colombia National Symphonic Band at the age of 18, Javier Ocampo has been considered as an outstanding figure of the diffusion, creation and promotion of Latin American music written for saxophone in multiple formats and musical genres. From the genesis, development and interpretation, his contribution has produced more than 45 new works, consolidating the saxophone in the cultural environment and the musical scene of the region. Having earned degrees in Colombia, France and the United States, Ocampo has been recognized with first prizes and mentions around the world. As a saxophone soloist, he has created three studio recordings, all of them dedicated to Latin American music, in addition to several commercial and popular music recordings in which he has participated as musician, producer, composer, and singer.

After serving for 8 years as Dean of the Music Faculty “CAMV” and General Director of the International Saxophone Festival (FIS) in Cali Colombia, Ocampo is currently the School of Music and Sound Art Director at the Ecuador Arts University, a current member of the Board of Directors from the Latin American Saxophone Association ALASAX, and a Vandoren France and Victory Instruments artist.
