Hartt Dance Director Stephen Pier to Teach and Direct in Europe

Dancers of the National Youth Ballet, Hamburg.
Dancers of the National Youth Ballet, Hamburg.

Director of Dance Stephen Pier may be on sabbatical this year, but his presence in the dance community and championing The Hartt School is felt all over the world.

Pier has been invited to teach and direct Germany's National Youth Ballet from Oct. 21– Nov. 18 of this year. The offer came this summer as Pier was visiting the Hamburg Ballet during their two-week long festival in Germany this past June. Pier will be engaged in coaching the company and staging José Limón's, "The Unsung" during his four weeks in Germany.

The company was established to serve as a bridge for talented young dancers ages 18-21 who are entering the profession, honing their skills and developing their artistry—similar in mission to Hartt Dance but with a much broader international scope. This opportunity is folded into his research on the art of partnering as he interviews and works with a number of dance artists in Hamburg, Berlin, and Copenhagen this winter. More information about the company can be found here.
