The University of Hartford’s annual open enrollment for medical, dental, vision, and optional life insurance, as well as pre-tax savings account elections, for coverage beginning January 1, 2025, will take place from Friday, November 1, 2024 – Friday, November 29, 2024.
During Open Enrollment, employees will be able to initiate insurance elections for 2025 in their Employee Self Service (ESS) portal. Employees adding or removing dependents to plans will receive follow-up instructions to ensure the appropriate dependents are addressed.
Rates for all CY 2025 insurance elections are available on Employee Self-Service and can be found here.
A brief summary of plan year 2025 benefits is noted below:
A full evaluation for the medical plan, dental plan, and life insurance plan lines of coverage was conducted. The Benefits Task Force committee also reviewed the letter submitted in July from the Staff Council regarding maintaining the Health Savings Account (HSA) contribution from the University into 2025 and beyond.
Medical Insurance:
- No increases to employee payroll premiums for 2025.
- Retain the medical insurance carrier, Aetna.
- No changes to the medical plan structure. With the changes/consolidation that were implemented in 2024, the University will continue to offer the Deductible Based Plan and the Point of Service Plan.
- The University will continue to offer an employer contribution for the Health Savings/Reimbursement Accounts for 2025, at the same contribution rate ($1,000 for employee only, $2,000 for employee + spouse/children/family). This contribution cannot be guaranteed for perpetuity, however will be reviewed annually.
- No changes to the current pharmacy benefit.
Dental Insurance:
1. No changes to the plan structure or carrier for the dental insurance (Aetna).
2. Rates are increasing by 6.9% for 2025, which will result in the following increases for employee premiums on a per-pay basis:

- No changes to the plan structure, carrier, or rates for the vision insurance (United Healthcare).
Life Insurance:
- No changes to the plan structure, carrier, or rates for the life insurance. (The Standard)
Elections MUST be made in ESS no later than Friday, November 29, 2024.
Please note, Health Savings Accounts as well as Flexible Spending Account elections cannot be rolled from year to year. You must use the ESS process and select these options to participate in these benefits.
An email will be sent to all full- and part-time benefit eligible faculty and staff on Nov. 1 when Open Enrollment begins.
