Federal Work-study Students are Still Looking for Employment

Many Federal Work-Study (FWS) students are still looking for employment for the Fall 2024 semester. All departments are strongly encouraged to hire students through the federal work-study program. If you have never been a federal work-study supervisor before and want to learn more about the process, email Executive Director of Financial Aid Katherine Presutti at kpresutti@hartford.edu. Reminder, FWS student workers are no-cost to your budget!

Handshake, UHart’s online internship and job platform, will be where all departments post their positions and where students search for opportunities. If you are interested in posting a job, please have your student employment position descriptions emailed to the Allan Center for Career and Professional Development at career@hartford.edu. They will manage all job postings on the on-campus employment Handshake page.

We are encouraging students to apply for positions through Handshake as well. Hiring managers can review applications online and then select students to interview or hire. We ask that once positions are filled, postings please be taken down to help students navigate open positions only.

A few additional Federal Work Study reminders:

  • The 2024-25 pay rate for federal work study is $15.69 per hour.
  • You can confirm if a student is work study eligible under the employee tab on self-service. Just click the ‘Validate Student” link. This will also show up the total amount a student can earn throughout the academic year. It is the supervisors responsibility to monitor the students hours worked/paid.
  • Before a student can begin working, they must have an approved and applied Epaf which requires financial aid and HR approval.
  • Students can begin working on the first day of class and must stop working on the last day of finals.

Thank you for your partnership and support. Please know there is no job too small. If your office could use even just a small bit of support please hire a FWS student so that all students in search of a position are able to find one.
