Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Returns to the Hartt School

Millard Auditorium

It’s your chance to hear the next generation of opera stars.

The Hartt School will once again play host to the Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition. This national talent search brings together thousands of up-and-coming young opera singers across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, all competing for a chance to sing on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera.

30 singers will participate in the Connecticut Region competition on Sunday, October 13. The “best of the best” will be selected by a panel of distinguished judges to receive cash prizes and advance to the New England Region competition in Boston.

Some of today’s greatest singers got their start in the auditions, including Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Stephanie Blythe, Eric Owens, Lawrence Brownlee, Lisette Oropesa, Jamie Barton, Michael Fabiano, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Ryan Speedo Green, and Nadine Sierra.

You’re invited to support these young artists and witness opera history in the making!

  • Date: Sunday, October 13
  • Time: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Place: Millard Auditorium
