Opening Weekend Events 2024

We are super excited to welcome our Hawks back to campus! Opening weekend is a great time to make new friends and explore UHart student life together. Mark your calendars and jump right into the swing of things. Check out the list of events taking place throughout opening weekend:

Thursday, Aug. 22 

Soccer Game at Al-Marzook Athletics Field, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Cheer on UHart's Men's Soccer Team during their scrimmage against St. Joe's University Men's Soccer Team. 

Paint and Play Night in Alumni Plaza, 8 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Connect with the Office of Residential Life staff and first-year students while playing games and painting a tile to hang up in your room. Games include a 3v3 Basketball Tournament, Building Challenge with LEGOS, and board games.

Friday, Aug. 23

Welcome Activities in GSU:

Join our Red Caps, take your first photo in front of the Step and Repeat, and celebrate because you are now an official UHart student!

President's Welcome, 11 a.m. – 1p.m.

Engage with President Lawrence P. Ward and other UHart campus leaders inside University Commons. Enjoy snacks, cold drinks, and a break from the busy move-in day.

Late Night Hangout and Fun, 7 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Join us in Poe Park and Alumni Plaza to start making memories with your new classmates and friends! Sing karaoke in Hawk's Nest, hangout around the fire pit, or dance the night away.

Saturday, Aug. 24

First Year Fun-Zone, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Join the Office of Residential Life for fun and games in Poe Park. This is an amazing opportunity to meet some of the Residential Assistants and Residential Directors who will be there to support you during your housing experience. Create your own candy bag, tie-dye a bucket hat or tote bag, and play lawn games while jamming out to music.

Big H photo (Class of 2028), 5:15 p.m.

This UHart tradition gets you together with your incoming Class of 2028 to make a large H for a photo. This keepsake will be a photo you'll cherish through graduation and beyond! Join us in front of GSU. If you are a commuter student, please plan to pick-up your t-shirt and student ID between 4-5 p.m. in front of GSU before the picture.

Commuter Student BBQ, 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Join the Commuter Student Association (CSA) for a BBQ in GSU Hawk Lounge. Take a tour of the Commuter Student Lounge on the lower level of GSU.

Block Party, 7:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Join us for some fun at a Block Party in Alumni Plaza. You can create your own airbrushed hat, air plant, and custom candy box. Enjoy other fun activities including a rock climbing wall and 360 video booth while eating some cotton candy and popcorn.

Sunday, Aug. 25

Start Strong Adventures

If you haven't already signed up for an adventure and would like to join us, we have a number of fun adventures awaiting you! Register today!

Welcome BBQ, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Join us for a bite to eat at our Welcome BBQ at the University Commons. Come hungry!

Bishops Takeover, 7 p.m.: Explore local businesses right down the road from campus in Bishops Corner! Grab your new friends and head to Target, Home Goods, Whole Foods, or the Big Y to pick up any last-minute groceries or items you may need for your residential unit. Enjoy a meal at Ocho Cafe, Noodles and Company, or Blue Plate Kitchen. Some stores and restaurants may offer a discount if you show them your UHart ID. The shuttles will pick students up from F-Lot in front of Konover. Be sure to register for the shuttle!


The Office of Residential Life will be hosting floor meetings and community dinners Thursday–Saturday after residents are settled into their residential units. Please check your UHart email address for more information.

Visit the UHart Hub to learn more about events happening throughout the year. Students must show their digital ID or ID number at the front door of each event hosted on campus. Be sure to download the Modern Campus Involve mobile app to easily access your digital ID for event attendance.
