New Exhibit Coming to Museum of Jewish Civilization

The Museum of Jewish Civilization, an entity of the Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies, received a CT Humanities Implementation Grant for its forthcoming exhibit “Jews in Space: Members of the Tribe in Orbit.” The exhibit examines not only how Jews have pondered the existence of the solar system from the ancient past to contemporary times, but also how these examinations have become part of popular culture. The exhibit will be on display in the museum (located in Mortensen Library) from Sept. 2024 – May 2025. Public programs will take place throughout the fall and spring semesters.

“We’re thrilled to be able to host “Jews in Space” at the University of Hartford,” noted Amy Weiss, assistant professor of Judaic Studies and History and the director of both the Museum of Jewish Civilization and the Greenberg Center. “The exhibit offers a new perspective on the connections between science and religion. It also examines the multifaceted roles Jews have played in the space industry as well as in the vast field of science fiction. We’re excited for the UHart community, and the greater Hartford public, to view the exhibit and attend our events.”
