Hartt Musicians & Engineers Featured on New Recording

Quincunx cover art.

Quincunx is a new recording featuring the music of Hartt composer and alumni Thomas Schuttenhelm. On it, you can hear one of the last recordings made by former Hartt faculty Robert Black. Black commissioned Schuttenhelm to compose a piece for bass and guitar and the result was 4 Aspects of Emancipation. Black, and guitarist Jordan Dodson, recorded this piece at the Hartt Recording Studios in the summer of 2022. Hartt engineer Colby Savary, and Hartt alum Baker Wainscoat (2023) played an important role in the recording and production. The recording consists of duos and a quintet featuring some of the best guitarists in the industry: Jiji, Gabriele Leite, and Trevor Babb; and all-star cast of string players: Danbi Um, violin (Astral Artist); Nick Revel, viola (PUBLIQuartet); Tom Kraines (Daedalus Quartet); and Robert Black, bass. The project included the L.A. based Grammny nominated producer Dave Veslocki and is available on Frameworks Records and streaming services.
