photo of Noel CasianoHillyer College Associate Professor of Psychology and Human Services Noel Casiano was recently featured on WTIC radio’s public affairs program, Face CT. Host Morgan Cunningham asked Casiano about his experience growing up on Hartford’s Park Street, his early career working for State Department of Department of Children and Families, and his work in the UHart classroom. Casiano also discussed how he was selected to be featured in an art mural on Park Street that honors Hartford community leaders.

In the interview, Casiano explained he teaches students how trauma can affect individuals when it is not processed, and how they can provide support and be an asset to those individuals. He said he also gives students assignments to go into urban neighborhoods to see how they can provide support. Casiano said when students do community service projects or attend events, it helps them have a better personal understanding about what goes on in the community, and helps them find ways to provide positive support.
