The 2023 Barney School of Business Board of Visitors Alumni Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Reception was held on Thursday, Nov. 16. This year's inductee is Gillian Riley M'93, who earned her degree as a part of Barney's Paris MBA program.
Gillian Riley was named president & CEO of Tangerine, Canada’s largest and leading digital bank, in December of 2018. She also serves as executive vice president for parent company Scotiabank, a Canadian multinational banking and financial services giant headquartered in Toronto.
A standing-room-only filled auditorium of guests was welcomed by Interim Dean Carmen Cotei and Donald Allan Jr. ‘86, Chair of the UHart Board of Regents. Last year’s Hall of Fame scholarship recipients, Gregory Wadinger ‘23, M’24, and Simone Romano-Pringle ‘24. The two students shared the impact that the scholarship and relationships with last year’s Hall of Fame inductees, Jay Malave M’98 and Valerie Orsoni ‘91, made on them.
Sam Broomer M‘97, M’99, Chair of the Barney Board of Visitors then introduced this year’s inductee, Gillian. Gillian provided inspiration and remarks to the audience on how her Barney education inspired her and led to her career success.
In her remarks, Gillian quoted Barney’s small class sizes and professors as being something she loved about her experience. Additionally, her MBA courses taught her a lot about confidence, specifically from the presentation and public speaking courses she took.
This year’s scholarship recipient, Leslie Li ‘25 was awarded and Sam Broomer and Acting President, Stephen Mulready M’77 closed out the ceremony. This was then followed by a networking reception in the Stanley Black and Decker Commons, where students, faculty, staff, and alumni were able to mingle.
