UHart Student Awards
DEAN OF STUDENTS RECOGNITION OF LEADERSHIP AWARD:
Paquiana Wilson
This award identifies senior students who demonstrate outstanding qualities in their achievements and membership in student organizations during the academic year. Recipients are selected on involvement in programs that contribute to the quality of student life and the image of the University; the ability to think and act independently on behalf of the organization; ability to inspire and motivate one's peers.
EMERGING LEADER AWARD:
Farah Suede
A first- or second-year student who has made a substantial contribution to the UHart community by their involvement in a campus organization or a community outreach initiative is given the Emerging Leader Award. Also, the candidate needs to exhibit strong potential for continued civic engagement and leadership.
HAWK COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AWARD:
Benjamin Parsons
This award recognizes a student who is dedicated and actively engaged in building community on campus. This award recognizes a student who lives this university’s values of integrity, curiosity, creativity, excellence, responsibility, and accomplishment through their work and actions to promote the ideals to foster a better sense of pride at the University of Hartford.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD:
Rue Mupfumira, Ghezlen Alazemi
This award recognizes an international student who has demonstrated exceptional contributions of leadership and engagement within the University of Hartford community. Recipients are selected based on their promotion of cross-cultural exchange and learning among their peers, and demonstrate the attributes of responsible global citizens, including open-mindedness, equity, adaptability, and cultural empathy. Award recipients serve as role models across campus for connecting students and fostering an environment of inclusion and understanding.
M. KEVIN FAHEY GENGRAS STUDENT UNION AWARD:
Maralex Ramirez
This award recognizes one student who demonstrates and contributes significant leadership in the development of the overall program and mission of the Gengras Student Union. The award recognizes a student who understands that as the living room or the “hearthstone of the campus,” the Union contributes significantly, through its operations, programs, and services to the out-of-the-classroom educational experience. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of a minimum of 2.5.
RICHARD D. KELLER AWARD:
Sebastian Bonaiuto
This award recognizes one student with a disability that demonstrates initiative and perseverance in their involvement in University programs or student organizations. Nominees may also be students who do not have a disability, but who have contributed significantly to enable complete participation and involvement in campus life by those who do have disabilities. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of a minimum of 2.5.
UNSUNG HERO AWARD:
Maliqa Mosley-Williams, Ashton Gauvin
This award will be given to someone who typically does not receive the recognition they deserve. This student goes above and beyond without expecting praise. The recipient has overcome obstacles to successfully transition into and adjust to college academic life. And has become an essential part of the University of Hartford community.
UHart Graduate Student Award
GRADUATE AWARD OF EXCELLENCE:
Nathan Murphy, Jasmine Streeter
This award recognizes a Graduate Assistant who goes above and beyond their assigned responsibilities by contributing their time, energy, and talents to further the growth and development of undergraduate students on campus. The recipient of this award has shown efforts to make the campus community stronger and outstanding commitment to serving students.
UHart Faculty and Staff Award
ADVISOR OF THE YEAR AWARD:
Llonia Rojan Jackson
This award is designed to recognize a faculty or staff member who has volunteered their time to serve as an advisor to a registered student organization. This person has made a significant contribution to both the student members and the organization as a whole. The award will recognize an individual for their service, dedication, mentorship, compassion, consistency, and wisdom.
UHart Student Organization Awards
EXCELLENCE THROUGH SERVICE AWARD:
Alpha Phi Omega
This award recognizes organizations that have contributed most significantly to the community during the academic year. The recipients will have exhibited an exceptional commitment to supporting the needs and interests of our community locally, nationally, and/or globally through direct community service, as well as, share their passion with the Hartford campus community. Selection is based on the quality of project(s) or event(s) completed by the group, and contribution to the organization being served. The group’s project(s) may have aided one or more service agencies, charitable organizations, health organizations, campus constituencies, etc.
PROGRAM OF THE YEAR AWARD:
Black Student Union Fashion Show
This award recognizes student organizations for the development and/or execution of an event/program that significantly enhanced the social, recreational, educational, and/or cultural life of the student body and the general community at the University of Hartford. Recipients of this award planned and implemented a University-wide program, which contributed in a significant way to the quality of student life, and to better the enjoyment, understanding, knowledge, and positive image of our University.
STUDENT ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR AWARD:
Student Nursing Association
This award recognizes organizations that have made the most significant progress since the beginning of the academic year. This student organization has shown outstanding commitment to the organization's mission, made an impact in the University of Hartford community, and has excelled in program planning, financial management, and leadership development of its members. Selection is based on the organization’s demonstration of a strong and active membership, successful programming, and overall contribution to the University.
OSEI Pillar Awards
COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION AWARD:
Dariana Rosario
This award recognizes the outstanding efforts of an organization and/or student that is actively engaged in promoting and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This award honors the challenging task of further transforming our community into one that not only celebrates but fully embraces DEI. Recipients work collaboratively with others to achieve equality and progress at the University of Hartford and encourage positive outcomes as part of larger solutions.
WELL-BEING AWARD:
Jydia Davis
This recipient demonstrates well-being through a holistic approach that champions others in mind, body, and spirit. They promote well-being through the lens of individual experience and intersecting identities while advocating for belonging and connectedness through supportive structures rooted in DEI.
CITIZENSHIP AWARD:
Emmalee Richards, Victoria Rozario
This recipient engages others in a world that amplifies differences by acknowledging our shared humanity. They are dedicated to viewing the world through multiple perspectives which helps others draw conclusions about the environment in which they learn, live, and work. They recognize their responsibility to be self-aware and civically engaged to lead and work toward a more equitable, just, and inclusive world.
LEADERSHIP LEGACY (ROBERT HANLEY) AWARD:
Alissa Hoffman, Jason Merendino
This is one of the most prestigious of all awards this award recognizes one or two students who have demonstrated a solid commitment to the University. The recipient is selected based on involvement in student organizations and/or University programs, service to the community, having a positive spirit about the University, and serving as a role model for other students. Recipients of this award made a significant impact on the University of Hartford and/or the surrounding community during their time at the institution, with an emphasis on how they have influenced the development and mentoring of future leaders. As well as leaving a strong legacy and impact on the University of Hartford. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of a minimum of 3.0 or higher.
