Call for resumes! We are seeking to hire a Business Advisor as a part-time, 20 hours per week, EWBC employee. As part of our dynamic team, this role will play an instrumental role in our mission to help clients create, develop, and sustain growth in their small businesses, with a focus on supporting women- and minority-owned micro-enterprises.

The desired candidate will have business ownership or management experience in addition to coaching or consulting experience. They will also be familiar with the Connecticut entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The University of Hartford recognizes that our employees may seek flexibility in terms of where they work. This position will include a Flexible Work Schedule including both remote and on-site hours, as determined by the supervisor. Employees are expected to work agreed-upon hours and to record time worked.

Core Responsibilities: 
  • Assess client’s business situations and identify necessary steps to assist with issues
  • Coach small business clients on topics such as financial management and business strategy
  • Help clients achieve measurable outcomes: business starts, job creation/retention, stability or growth in sales/profits, capital infusion through loans, grants, and investments 
  • Teach workshops on small business topics
  • Perform outreach at internal and external programs/events
Skills Required: 
  • Client relationship management
  • Time and administrative management
  • Business Management Coaching Skills: Business startup process, business financial literacy, business plan development, financial statements, market research, loan packaging, public speaking
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office/Outlook/Teams/Excel, Adobe PDF forms, Internet use and searching, video conferencing (Webex, Teams), CRM database data entry and reporting
  • Business Spanish preferred 
Other Requirements: 
  • Bachelor's required, postgraduate desirable
  • Previous business ownership or relevant management experience (5+ years)
  • Previous business management consulting or coaching experience (2+ years)
  • Experience working with microbusinesses and SEDI (Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Individuals) 
  • Familiarity with CT entrepreneurial ecosystem
