CETA/HAS Student Designs Exclusive Hawk Pride Stickers for Day of Giving
In honor of UHart’s eighth annual Day of Giving, graduating senior Joanna Abare ’23 designed three limited-edition Hawk Pride stickers. Abare is a student in the HAS Illustration program and CETA, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in manufacturing and a minor in mathematics. She is on track to graduate in May with a dual degree as the first UHart student attending both CETA and HAS.
“I decided to combine two of my passions, art, and science, into my studies to challenge myself and add another dimension to my creativity,” said Abare. “The problem-solving skills used in engineering and art overlap more than one would think. Being a student in both strengthens my work.”
Abare is also a LEAD student. As a woman going into engineering, a male-dominated field, she credits LEAD with helping her find her voice. “We work a lot with knowing our worth and knowing that we belong in the same areas as anyone else,” said Abare.
As for her artistic process in creating these one-of-a-kind stickers, she knew she needed simplified designs that translated well to the small sticker medium. She sketched out her ideas, painted the final copies using acrylic ink on an illustration board, and digitally scanned the designs into Photoshop, editing them by adding text and playing around with color levels.
These limited-edition sticker designs will be available only on Day of Giving, tomorrow, March 29. Students, faculty, and staff can look for them at the GSU Fair and the S’More Celebration events on campus. Alumni, keep an eye on your inbox for an exclusive chance to grab yours!
