As the world awaits a verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial, the University is supporting our students, faculty, and staff. Please read the message that was shared with the campus community on Friday, April 16.
As part of our shared commitment, the Dean of Students, CAPS, Public Safety, the Office of Student Engagement and Inclusion, the Office of Diversity and Community Engagement, SGA Identity Organizations, Alumni of Color Tasks Force, and Staff and Faculty of Color Affinity Group are collaborating to present the following events:
Building Trust with Public Safety and Police Reform
This virtual discussion from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, will focus on UHart's community engagement model for Public Safety and the current state of police reform in the country.
Panelist joining the conversation:
- Captain Davis: Master’s Degree Justice and Law Administration, and 26 years of law enforcement experience
- Assistant Chief Nealy: Master’s Degree, Organizational Leadership, and 39 years of law enforcement experience

Healing for the Black Community
CAPS will host a support group on Wednesday, April 21, at 5 p.m., where students may process their feelings and share their experiences of the continued violence towards the Black community in this country. The focus will be on active listening, caring for each other, and creating brave spaces for open dialogue, where all experiences are honored. While this space is particularly geared to support our UHart Black community, all students are welcome to attend. Affinity breakout rooms will take place during the group discussion. The space will be cofacilitated by three CAPS clinicians Najeia Mention, Gary Huang, and Connor Curtis. Please RSVP by this Tuesday April 20th by registering online.

While this space is particularly geared to support our UHart Latinx community, all students are welcome to attend. Affinity breakout rooms will take place during the group discussion.
