Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Ted Diehl Publishes Two Books

Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Ted Diehl has published two books on engineering dynamics. The “Engineering Dynamics Course Companion” books (volumes 1 and 2) are supplemental textbooks intended to assist students, especially visual learners, in their approach to sophomore level engineering dynamics. According to Diehl, these texts emphasize the basics of Newtonian mechanics and problem-solving skills in an accessible and fun format organized to coincide with the semester schedule many instructors choose.

Both books include numerous example problems and sample tests for student practice. The first volume covers the dynamics of particles, while the second volume covers the dynamics of rigid bodies. Throughout both volumes, students are joined by Newtdog (Sir Isaac Newton) and Wormy, cartoon companions that serve as visual mnemonics to aid in learning and development of problem-solving skills.
