NASA CT Space Grant Consortium Seeking Faculty Involvement

August 19, 2019
Submitted By: Mary Arico

The NASA Connecticut Space Grant Consortium is a federally mandated fellowship & scholarship program that is funded as a part of NASA Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM).  University of Hartford is the lead-institution of this statewide fellowship and scholarship program. In the upcoming academic year, NASA CTSG Leadership team will award approximately 30 student awards, 20 faculty awards, and numerous pre-college and informal education grants.

The consortium is currently lead by a Director, CETA Dean Hisham Alnajjar, an Associate Director, Cater Arico, and Program Coordinator, Janet Spatcher.  We are looking to fill the roles of Assistant Director and Campus Director before the start of the academic year.

Interested full-time faculty should have interest in areas of outreach, higher education, k-12 education, and informal education programming.  There are many benefits to these roles, including direct networking with local industry, and NASA administrators and scientists, empowering faculty, students and K-12 students to further their interest in STEM fields, and particularly NASA, and being the face of NASA in Connecticut.

The Assistant Director will assist with day-to-day functions of the consortium (budget, social media/outreach, program evaluation, etc.), assist with reporting to NASA, participate in fellowship and scholarship proposal evaluation, and oversee Pre-College and Informal Education activities.

Campus Directors are the connection to NASA, and NASA CTSG on each academic affiliate campus.  Campus director duties include: advertise RFP announcements and Consortium activities, participating in proposal reviews, support Consortium goals and reporting, and attend CTSG events and bi-annual meetings.
