Interprofessional Learning is Preparing MSOT Students for Success After Graduation
Camila Harris ’22 M’25 is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) after completing her undergraduate degree at UHart in health science with a minor in psychology. The MSOT is a post-baccalaureate professional program designed to prepare students for licensing as certified occupational therapists. Students benefit from personal attention, strong fieldwork partnerships, and research opportunities in a two-year, full-time program.
In preparing for a career after graduation, Camila finds one of the more valuable aspects of the program to be the interprofessional opportunities to work with programs like the Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics. In addition, the hands-on learning she has experienced in both the occupational therapy skills suite in our newest academic building, the Hursey Center, as well as fieldwork opportunities has given her a great glimpse in to what to expect in her future career. Part of the program involves observing occupational therapists in a variety of settings, which Camila has found helps to make important connections within her course work.
Having spent both her undergraduate and graduate years at UHart, Camila says that her experience has been “more than she could have asked for.” “It has provided me with a safe space to grow and has given me the most amazing memories. I feel extremely fortunate to return to UHart to pursue my master’s degree.”
Camila’s advice to students considering the program is “Take some time to tour our campus and check out our gorgeous Hursey Center! Also, take the time to reach out to local rehab settings and observe.”
