Reilly Keegan ’24, M'25 has hit a homerun with her summer internship: The University of Hartford student is spending her days at the Hartford Yard Goats stadium.

As a Barney School of Business student enrolled in the 3+1 program, she will receive both her bachelor's degree and MBA in just four years. She is a marketing major and sports management minor, which led her to her role as a summer associate with the local minor league baseball team.

Reilly has had the opportunity to rotate through an array of departments to get a taste of what it takes on a day-to-day basis to operate as the Yard Goats. She has learned about sponsorships, ticket sales, and promotions and marketing. Reilly has even gotten a behind-the-scenes glimpse at how the games operate. It’s all adding up to invaluable experience and knowledge that will give her an edge as she pursues a career in sports.

On the UHart campus, you can find Reilly giving tours to prospective students as a part of the Red Key Society, or working as a peer tutor. Reilly credits these extracurriculars with helping her develop time management and team collaboration skills.

Her favorite part of the Barney experience? The Career Ready program.

“The school helps prepare you from the second you step on campus for what is to come after graduation. They are constantly putting us in front of business professionals to learn how to handle those situations in real time,” she says.

Reilly realizes this has built her confidence. But she’s also grateful for Celia Lofink, assistant dean of Career Ready Programs, for being a helpful and insightful guide throughout college and for what’s to come after graduation.

There’s nothing I would change about my college career. I feel all I have experienced has helped me become who I am today and will serve me well when I am in the workforce.

As a rising senior, Reilly has some advice for fellow Barney students.

“Take up every opportunity. Get involved, explore what is out there. You never know who you will meet and how it may connect to something bigger,” she shares. “Don’t be shy, connect with your professors; they are here for you.”

Following graduation with her bachelor’s degree this coming spring, Reilly plans on job searching in the minor league baseball field, while also pursuing her MBA here at Barney.
