Wanting to be a ray of positive light during a patient’s darkest time is what inspired Erin Daley ’23 to study nursing at UHart. Now, 4 years after challenging classwork and hands-on clinicals, she has been hired by Hartford Hospital to work as a nurse in their Level 1 Trauma Center.
Erin believes the hands-on experience gained at UHart was largely due to the skills and connections developed during her Senior Capstone Clinical Experience. This required part of the nursing curriculum allows students to apply their skills in a professional setting.
“All of my clinical experiences helped build the professional nurse I hope to become. I was able to use my skills learned throughout nursing school and adapt them to the position,” she says.
Erin recalls her favorite thing about UHart was the Hursey Center. She is part of the first graduating class of nurses that had the opportunity to utilize the 60,000 square foot building with state of the art facilities, stimulating patient care in the real-world hospital setting.
When asked what advice she would give to incoming students, Erin says time management is important. She also advises, “remember your end goal when things get hard and you are in the thick of it.”
