You never know which opportunity might open new doors or spark a new interest. Dariana Rosario ’23 can attest to that.
She served as the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Chair in the Student Government Association (SGA) at the University of Hartford, and now as a recent grad, she’s secured a position at the Farmington-based Miss Porter’s School in its Office of Equity and Inclusion as the equity and inclusion intern.
Her lifelong dream of working in the medical field led her to pursue her studies in Health Science at UHart, which provided her with the knowledge and information she needed to shape her career.
Upon receiving her degree, Rosario secured the internship position at Miss Porter’s, as well as in the school’s Office of Student Life as a housing director. She credits her UHart experiences for supporting her in attaining this opportunity.
“Working within UHart's Student Government Association, mentorship programs, and their Center for Student Success gave me the opportunities and experiences to learn and create a sense of community while still guiding others around me,” she says.
Through her involvement in the SGA, she developed a strong understanding of DEI, which contributed to her success. While at UHart she was also involved in the Hispanic and Latino Student Association, Red Caps, S.T.R.I.D.E, and Vuelo Mas Alto, and had the opportunity to be a success mentor and an intern for the Ridgefield Visiting Nurses Association.
Rosario’s favorite thing about UHart is that despite being away from home, UHart made her feel at home through its commitment to creating a welcoming environment for students. For incoming students, Rosario advises them to “always be open to new opportunities.”
