Sarah Stroh ’21 knows the importance of making connections, and that is exactly what she did at UHart! Stroh studied Performing Arts Management at The Hartt School and was involved in local music throughout college. Through her hard work and connections, she landed a job as Marketing Assistant and Booking Admin at Manic Presents upon graduation.
Stroh attributes obtaining her skills not only from her major coursework, but also from her involvement in extracurricular activities on campus. She was Public Relations Vice President for the Student Government Association (SGA), a role that taught her marketing and public relations tactics and strategies she brings to her new position. In addition, Stroh was the Concerts and Performances Chair for the Hartford Events and Activities team for three years, a role that allowed her to book concerts on campus- even virtually during the pandemic.
For two of her four year at UHart, Stroh was able to make time to be the Program Director for WSAM Radio, one of the two radio stations on campus. She was also a part of the WSAM booking staff all four years, where she organized and promoted live events.
“Without these experiences, I definitely wouldn’t be who I am today, or where I am today,” said Stroh. “These positions allowed me to network and build my circle- something that is extremely imperative in my industry. They helped me learn how to communicate with others efficiently and appropriately, as well as professionally,” she continued.
Stroh went on to explain that professors Mehmet Dede and Gabe Herman had significantly and positively impacted her college experience.
“Sarah Stroh is a really special person with a sincere passion for the performing arts. While a student at Hartt, Sarah always sought out opportunities to gain experience that helped her bridge her studies with real-world application,” said Gabe Herman, assistant professor of music production and technology. “As her professor, it was clear that Sarah was destined for success and it was such a pleasure watching her knowledge and skills grow each year. Her accomplishments are just the beginning of what I am sure will be a long and successful career!”
As for advice for incoming students, Stroh stresses the fact that you need to take good care of your mental and physical health. “Learn to say no, learn to give yourself a break,” she said.
