Sarah Burke '21, a Radiologic Technology major in UHart’s College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP), plans to work at Manchester Memorial Hospital as a radiologic technologist and after a year, begin training in mammography. She was offered the job before graduation and credits this success to the experiences she gained in clinical rotations and the relationships she developed with advisors and ENHP faculty.
As a radiologic technician, Sarah will be a member of a team that helps diagnose and treat all types of pathologies and conditions. It is a dynamic, fast-paced profession that combines the use of sophisticated medical imaging technology with compassionate care of the ill and injured.
UHart’s bachelor's degree program in Radiologic Technology requires a combination of challenging academics and clinical rotations to prepare graduates for work in their field. Upon completing these clinical rotations, Sarah was recommended by a supervisor to apply for the job which she ultimately landed.
Sarah also worked closely during this process with her advisor, Dr. Kori Stewart, who taught a class that helped her prepare her resume and practice interviewing skills, so she was prepared to search for a job in her field before graduating from UHart. Sarah says, “My professors in the program taught me all I have learned and were great references for me.” One of her favorite things about her experience at UHart was “the welcoming and supportive staff.”
Sarah said that she loved her experience at the University of Hartford and added, “Although it was a hard time to go through a program like this, the staff and school as a whole worked to support their students.”
What is Sarah’s advice to incoming Radiologic Technology students? She recommends “Always do what you can to get ahead, keep good relationships with your professors, and never be afraid to ask for help.”
