During her time at UHart, Brittany Braun ’21 perfected the skill of time management, successfully juggling varsity athletics with the honors program. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in the Health Sciences Pre-Professional program and is planning to apply to graduate school to become a physician assistant. She will spend the next year working at her local hospital to obtain the patient contact hours that are required for entry to physician assistant programs.
As a member of the women’s volleyball team and honors student, Brittany learned essential time management and organizational skills. “These traits taught me to be disciplined in my studies and to utilize the university’s as well as my own personal support systems, which include family, friends, and teammates,” she said.
Brittany says the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions helped prepare her for her next steps by providing a multitude of classes with real-world applications. “ENHP’s different health-focused electives provide a wide base of knowledge to build upon,” she said.
Working with Associate Professor Colleen Munoz, Brittany also completed an honors research project titled “The Relationship Between Physical Activity Habits and Mood State in Older Adults.”
The support of many staff and faculty members also helped guide Brittany on her journey. “Academically, Dr. Claudia Oakes willingly offered her guidance and support. My volleyball coaches, Vinh Nguyen and Jaime Snyder, also provided guidance, support and mentorship throughout my time as a student-athlete,” she said.
Her advice to incoming freshmen is to “trust the process.” She added, “There will be difficult steps in your journey, but within those difficulties there are lessons and some good to be found.”
