Rylee Connor is a senior finance major at the University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business. Over the summer, she completed an internship in the Boston office of Northwestern Mutual, a financial services company. Although the internship became virtual due to COVID-19, she was able to learn a lot from the experience and take on leadership roles among the group of interns. Topics included retirement planning, annuities, disability insurance, and investments.
Prior to the internship, Rylee became certified in life and health insurance in the state of Massachusetts after taking the state exam. Over the course of the summer, she also became certified in the state of Connecticut after establishing and closing a life insurance policy for a University of Hartford alumnus. Rylee used many of the skills that she has learned over her time in the Barney School while completing this internship. She was able to meet and network with several senior advisors and lead managers in the company throughout the summer.
Rylee Connor '21, Finance majorLooking back, I can say that every Barney School course I have taken played a small part in my internship this summer. I feel so lucky to have gone into the internship with these skills under my belt since Barney School professors prepare us for these opportunities from the very start of our first year.”
Rylee studied abroad in the spring with a program called CIEE. She spent time living in Rome, Italy; and Berlin, Germany, having the opportunity to experience the culture of these two historic cities. Rylee previously served on the executive board and several committees of Delta Zeta, a sorority on campus.
