Christian Paley is a senior marketing major at the Barney School of Business and is a member of the University’s men’s lacrosse team. He was named to the America East All-Academic Team for two consecutive seasons for his exceptional skills in the sport.
During the fall of 2020, Paley interned with Sideline Swap for their business development team. Sideline Swap is a sporting goods website where users can buy and sell new or used sports equipment. His job: acquire new clients and conduct market research. At his job, he conducted research across regions and did in-depth analysis to find potential clients. Paley says he was able to apply the concepts he learned in school and leverage his knowledge to find 140 new re-sellers and dealers for the business, which he considers one of the key accomplishments during his internship. “The key learning objectives for me were to gain first-hand business experience in marketing research, as well as to enhance my digital marketing and technical skills,” he says about his experience at the firm.
Paley states that he owes this opportunity to his professors at the University who have been a constant support to him during his journey. “All of them have shown high levels of intelligence and interest in the subjects they teach, and a desire to engage the students' interests in the subject, to better themselves and their futures. Doctor Lofink, specifically, has been critical to my success at the Barney School with her constant help throughout the internship process and helping me look forward to a career path.” Also, during the past four years at Barney, Paley says he was able to “grow as an individual” and Barney has given him “endless opportunities” to do so. In the future, Paley aspires to work hard and be successful in either the digital marketing or business development fields and build strong relationships that will help him grow both professionally and personally.
