Posthumous Honor
Tiana Angelique Notice was born February 1984 to a large and loving family who early on recognized her love of music. Tiana spent as much time as she could in various choirs and singing groups, while also exploring the world of songwriting and poetry and the constant personal study of music and musical artists. At the University of Hartford, Tiana became an activist committed to many issues facing the nation, including the plight of the disenfranchised. This particular cause prompted her to found a chapter of the Roosevelt Institution on the UHart campus, which is a nonprofit, non-partisan, national network of campus-based student think-tanks whose members conduct policy research on pressing political issues. On behalf of the UHart chapter, Tiana served as a leader and mentor to many undergraduates.
Her activism continued on campus as a volunteer with the Women’s Center, promoting awareness campaigns such as Eating Disorder Awareness Week and World AIDS Day.
After graduation, Tiana, known for her expansive smile and colorful outfits, continued her education in UHart’s School of Communication. She had been considering a career in politics or law and was one semester away from graduating with a master’s degree when she became the fatal victim of violence. The Tiana Angelique Notice Foundation was founded by her father, Alvin, to fight violence against women, strengthen law enforcement protections for endangered women in high-risk domestic violence cases, and to honor Tiana’s name.
