Five new students are entering the program, which has ten total, including returners. They each receive a $10,000 scholarship for the academic year, and are mentored by Pratt & Whitney employees who are also UHart alumni. Those mentors were on hand for the kickoff event in the Hursey Center Makerspace.
Pratt & Whitney, the world’s leading manufacturer of jet propulsion systems, has provided scholarships to CETA students since 2019. To qualify, students must demonstrate financial need and major in a program that relates to the aerospace industry. They also undergo an interview with company representatives.
The partnership between P&W and CETA is mutually beneficial. Not only have many CETA alumni moved on to jobs at the company, but P&W employees can also pursue industry training at UHart’s Center for Manufacturing and Metrology, exploring advanced aspects of measurement science.
