If I were to represent all the scholarship students, I would emphasize the fact that we would not accomplish all that we do without the support of donors.

Philanthropy means you support those around you to make sure they will have opportunities to be successful and goal oriented. UHart helped me discover opportunities that I would not have at another school. UHart's dedication to providing aid to students is unmatched and a part of the reason I am here today.

I am majoring in criminal justice, sociology, and paralegal studies. I chose this area of study because I want to help diversify a field that has been historically difficult for POC (people of color) to enter. I have a passion for helping those in need, and I think that a reformation of the criminal justice system is very needed today.

The most important lesson I learned at UHart was to take risks and self-advocate. There were many moments as a first-year student when I felt unsure or nervous about an opportunity. I had to push myself to reach out and take advantage of what was being offered. Through doing this, I completed an internship my first year where I worked hands-on with legislation in the Connecticut State Capitol.

The experiences I’ve enjoyed most so far include being a part of The Women’s Advancement initiative’s LEAD program, where I made many new friends and experienced different opportunities. I’ve also enjoyed participating in the Asian Students Association Gala. Both experiences have made me feel like I was really becoming a part of the community at school.

In addition to classes and LEAD, I’m a member of the Asian Student Association, of which I am now the secretary, and Helping Hawks, an organization that focuses on community service in the Hartford area. Off campus, I’m a part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Board for Girl Scouts of Connecticut.

After graduation, I’m hoping to work as a paralegal as I attend law school, and eventually work at a government agency or nonprofit as a lawyer. I’m still deciding which branch of law I want to study, but I’m working to get experience in many different fields while at UHart. I have made many memories so far at UHart, and I can't wait to see where the next three years will take me.
