Rose, Eva, and George Kleman grew up in West Hartford, Conn., one town over from Hartford, where their parents, Jacob and Francis, owned and operated a small grocery store. It was the early 1900s and both Jacob and Francis made sure to instill morals and values in their children which would last throughout their lifetimes—including the importance of education and of giving back.

Rose Kleman, along with her sister Eva, became school teachers in the Hartford public school system. Rose was also an accomplished cellist and dedicated much of her career to teaching music at the University of Hartford's The Hartt School. Their brother George graduated from Yale University and owned a successful business consulting company in Hartford. He later taught business classes at both Yale and at UConn.

The Kleman family all shared a deep passion for education, and upon Rose's passing, Eva and George wished to honor their sister's memory while making a difference for future students. The siblings named the University of Hartford in their estate plans and established the Rose Kleman Scholarship Fund (in memory of Rose, Eva, and George Kleman). With their planned gift, there is now a substantial endowed fund that provides students with vital scholarship support year after year—in 2018–19 academic year, 22 students benefitted from their one act of kindness.

"My scholarship enabled me to grow and share the rewards of academic and spiritual growth. I'm a better student leader and an effective member of society. Thank you for being a positive influence in my life."
