Giving the UHart experience to future generations
"It wasn't just an educational experience for me; it was a growth experience."

My UHart experience was really all-inclusive—it was so much more than the academics. I felt a strong sense of community there, from the faculty and staff to my core college friends, all of whom I remain close with to this day. Even the supervisors at my campus job in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP) dean’s office were an important part of my support network.
I chose UHart because of its size and the opportunities within the School of Communication, and I’m so grateful that I did. UHart was the right school for me. My involvement in various extracurricular activities enriched my overall experience. I developed many relationships outside of the typical classroom structure while gaining real-world experience as I networked my way through campus, and was involved in the school newspaper and the National Student Advertising Competition. If I were at a larger school, some I had been looking at, I may not have had the same experience—it’s much harder to find your place in a big ocean.
I didn’t know it at the time but networking has become such a central part of my professional journey. Being active in my community has helped my career flourish. When I was running MITX, a professional network for tech and innovation companies in Boston, I expanded the network and created a community for women in the growth stage of their careers. It became a safe zone where women could respect each other's ideas and find professional solace. This community, called InfluenceHER, quickly grew to over 3,000 women in Boston. Many of the skills that I utilized during my career I gained at UHart.
I am fortunate to have built a valuable network and experiences in my career and want to make an impact aligned with my interests and beliefs. As my husband and I began our estate planning, we have been focused on causes we care about and where we could make a difference. The University of Hartford was foundational in my personal and professional development and we are committed to improving access to the experience and education it provides. I want students to be able to have experiences like I did and expand their mind—not only through academics but through their relationships—get to know the people around them, their professors, and their peers, and hone the skills they will carry throughout their careers.
UHart was an important piece of my journey and we want to give that experience to students for years to come. I believe it wasn’t just an educational experience for me—it was a growth experience. I hope to provide a similar experience to somebody else down the line.
