With over 35 years of international performance history paired with a multifaceted musical and scientific background has made Valerie Sorel one of the most sought out informed pedagogical and clinical approach in the lyric world today.

Valerie’s objective in each lesson is to establish smooth neurological pathways to the instrument, allowing the act of singing to become a reflex which instinctively expresses the individual’s musicality. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s immediate needs and draws upon Valerie’s years of study of the human anatomy, electro-acoustic, psychology (focusing on P.T.S.D. and trauma), functional fitness training, cognitive and behavioral studies, working as a certified animal behaviorist (shelter environment and trauma case) and rehabilitation from neurological injuries. Vague and arbitrary imagery is notably absent from the conversation, and problems are tackled with the goal of improving the singer’s relation to his/her instrument and improving range, flexibility, resilience, coordination, expression, and overall vocal comfort; in short, a voice lesson with Valerie Sorel is not a cookie-cutter event.

Singers come to Valerie from a wide variety of backgrounds: opera, musical theater, jazz, folk, R & B, choral, bluegrass etc. You will find in her studio advanced professional singers but also high school students preparing auditions for colleges and conservatories, to complete inexperienced singers that want to discover their voice.  It is interesting to note that, after a few years of technique with Valerie, some of these "amateurs" make a successful transition to the professional world.

Valerie's students can be seen performing at the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro La Fenice, New York City Opera, and on Broadway, Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Central City, Merola, Washington Opera, Seattle Opera, prestigious music festivals in Bluegrass, Folk, Jazz etc. Students of Valerie's have been named winners of competitions such as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Tony Awards, the George London Foundation, BBC Cardiff Singers of the World, Tenor Viñas Competition, Moniuszko Competition, and many more. While keeping a thriving studio in Connecticut and Skype, Valerie is frequently invited to give vocal clinics throughout Asia and often travels to Europe to teach her thriving private students.
