For the past ten years, mezzo-soprano, Sondra Kelly, has been a teacher not only for Lincoln Center, but for conservatories, universities, young artist programs and music schools throughout the country.
She has private studios in Boston and New Jersey and serves on the facilities of The Hartt School, West Harford, CT and The Longy School of Music of Bard College, Cambridge, MA.
Having been given the opportunity to work with promising young singers, Sondra acts both as teacher and mentor to help prepare her students for successful careers. Many of her students have been accepted into young artist programs here and abroad, and some have started their own careers as principal artists.
Having worked with many prestigious conductors and directors, both at the Metropolitan Opera and abroad, Sondra has been exposed to and challenged by a unique set of circumstances and has acquired a creative and broad range of skills that are particularly timely as the operatic landscape continues to shift and change. The circumstances and opportunities her career has afforded make her particularly drawn to teaching. Sondra combines innovation and tradition in her teaching to ensure her student’s success. Her own continuing study and work experience has proved to be invaluable to her students.
As a singer, Sondra has performed extensively throughout America, Europe and Asia. She has sung over 250 performances at the Metropolitan Opera ranging from Mozart to Wagner. Her recordings are on Deutsche Grammophon, Sony Classical and Koch Schwann. All of her DVD’s are Live from the Met.
