Nicholas Citro has worked with students of a wide variety of ages and ability levels. In his teaching, he likes to combine elements of the Suzuki Method as well as traditional string methods. Before coming to Connecticut, he taught for the Bridges Program in Baltimore, which provides music instruction to inner-city students. While studying at Baylor University, he maintained a private lesson studio for four years.
A dedicated orchestral player, Nicholas has performed with the Hartford, New World, and Wallingford Symphonies and the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, among others. He has also participated in numerous music festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, the National Orchestral Institute, the National Repertory Orchestra, and the Garth Newel Chamber Festival. As a chamber musician, he has had the privilege of playing at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC in part of their Chamber Music Series.
Nicholas holds a Master of Music from Peabody Conservatory as a student of Victoria Chiang. Originally from Texas, he first received a Bachelor of Music from Baylor University as a student of Kathryn Steely (DM). He has also studied with Li-Kuo Chang, Jeffrey Irvine, Rita Porfiris, and Stephen Wyrczynski. In his spare time, Nicholas enjoys jogging, hiking, cooking, and waterskiing.
As a music teacher working with a variety of ability levels, it can be difficult to condense a philosophy that applies to students who have completely different needs and goals in music. Nevertheless, I believe that everyone has the ability to create art and express themselves through music. The idea of “tone-deafness” is a concept I do not agree with. My ultimate goal is to guide students to be the best musicians as possible, foster a lifelong love and advocacy of music, and to develop a noble character.
