Ivana Milanovic received her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Tandon School of Engineering, New York University and MS and BS from University of Belgrade, Serbia, Yugoslavia. She has worked as a HVAC engineer, a faculty member at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Belgrade, as a graduate fellow and adjunct instructor at Tandon School of Engineering, and as a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Columbia University, NY.
Currently, she is a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Hartford, with ongoing research programs in vortical flows, computational fluid dynamics, multiphysics modeling and collaborative learning strategies. Milanovic is a contributing author for more than 90 journal articles, NASA reports, conference papers and software releases. Since joining the University of Hartford, she has been awarded or participated in a number of grants totaling approximately $3 million.
Milanovic is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). As an ASME member, Milanovic is active on the Fluid Mechanics Technical Committee co-organizing symposia, forums, and poster sessions. Milanovic is an elected member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering, a body of the top scientists and engineers in the state that provides support and insight to state agencies and legislature. Her honors include The Bent for Scholarly Creativity, Award for Innovations in Teaching and Learning and Outstanding Teacher Award of the year, University of Hartford, NASA Faculty Fellowships, NYU Graduate Fellowship, and Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship Award.
Milanovic has been the Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Technology Department in the Ward College of Technology (WCoT) from 2002-2005 and Mechanical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) from 2006-2010. She has organized and supervised four successful program accreditations under the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) old and new guidelines. Milanovic was also Co-director of the Connecticut Space Grant College Consortium (CT SG).
